December 8th, 2018

On Florida December season are the busiest decorating times of the year, and while this is an exciting time for some, it can also bring some risks.

All the time someone coming in, from a fall, falls from a ladder are very common.

When decorating for the holidays, it’s easy to get caught up in the festivities, and safety may be the last thing on your mind.

Jackson Memorial Hospital says they see a significant rise in injuries from decorating.

A study released from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission shows in 2016, there were more than 14,000 ER-treated injuries from holiday decorating. That makes more than 200 injuries per day during the months of November and December. Out of those injuries, three people died.

The most frequent holiday decorating incidents involve falls, cuts/scrapes and back strains.

To make sure you have a safe holiday season with friends and family, here are five decorating tips you should always follow:

1.Keep live trees away from heat sources.

2.Hydrate your trees.

3.Work as a team.

4.Double check your lights for safety.

5.Turn off your lights before you go to sleep.

“It’s important to inspect things when you get out thelights, extension cords. Make sure everything looks okay, It’s not frayed or anything like that.

Work as a team to make sure no one gets hurt.

Don’t work alone; take a couple of people. When we come out, it’s like five of us doing one area, so that way, we don’t get hurt .

Take the time to make sure everything is done correctly and safely.
